Q. What is a Web Content Management System (Web CMS)?

Q. Can an existing site be powered by TIRRUS ?

A. Yes, almost any website can be converted to TIRRUS. Provide us with your website address and an email address we will send you a report detailing to what extent your website is suitable for conversion to the TIRRUS Platform.

Q. Can TIRRUS be customized to our company's requirements?

A. Yes and that is what makes TIRRUS truly unique. TIRRUS has a wide breadth of functionality built in to the base product, and we are constantly adding more. We realize however  that no system is going to provide everything for everybody. That's why we developed TIRRUS on a modular platform allowing us to add or "plug in" custom functionality to a customer's TIRRUS website. Q. Does TIRRUS work with Flash websites?

A. Yes and No.  You can insert and manage Flash elements in your site, but If you want to create and mange the navigation menu and  pages of your site, then you will need to be built  in PHP and HTML.

Q. I can get a website on a large portal and its really cheap, why pay more for a TIRRUS website?

A. No other hosted content management system will provide the level of functionality or flexibility that TIRRUS offers.  Nor will you receive the level of implementation support that a TIRRUS website provides. Also, we continue to upgrade our TIRRUS CMS which you will benefit from for as long as you are a member.

Q. I have heard that Database driven sites are slower and don't show up on search-engines.

A. Any website can be slow and will not give you any help in your search engine rankings. First, a TIRRUS website is built using CSS (cascading style sheet), which means that there is drastically less code for each page, which makes the page very fast-loading. TIRRUS websites also use a powerful mixture of content compression and caching, which further ensures a speedy response. Because a TIRRUS website is built using a Content Management System, the content is housed in a database. Because the content for any particular page is so small in weight, in no way does the database slow down the loading of the page.

Secondly, TIRRUS websites are very search-engine friendly. When a page is created in a TIRRUS website, an actual physical page is generated. This page is what a Search Engine needs to have in order to look for the keyword for which you are searching. Because a TIRRUS website is built using CSS and the code is so minimal, the keywords used in your content will stand out more clearly to a search engine. Search engines rank your website according to how well they know what it is you do and how relavent it is to what someone is searching on (and of course there are more factors dealing with Search Engine Optimization that will raise your rankings). Because TIRRUS websites are built using CSS, there is far less code for the search engines to look through, which will naturally help your search engine rankings if the search engines know what you do more clearly.

Q. If I decide to stop using TIRRUS, will it impact my website?

A. Yes and No. If you decide to stop using TIRRUS as your provider, your static website can be delivered to you on a CDROM, for a nominal fee, which can then be hosted on any hosting provider. So, the look and feel of the website and the content will not be affected. But what is provided to you is just the html version of your website, which is not content manageable and will not have any of the custom modules, or features, that you have on your website. These features are listed in our Product Features page.

Q. What design can i have for my TIRRUS website?

A. You have three options.
1) Select one of our prebuilt templates. We will change the colors and homepage pictures to your preference and add your logo for you.

2) Ask us to copy the design of your existing website.

3) Have us create a custom design for you.

Q. What do I need to be able use TIRRUS to manage my website?

A. Just an internet connection and a computer, as you don't need to install or download any programs to use TIRRUS. Once your website has been created with TIRRUS all you need to use it is the web browser. Our TIRRUS CMS is compatible with Internet Explorer 5.5+ (Windows), Firefox 1.0+ , Mozilla 1.3+, and Netscape 7+.
Note to Mac users: This tool will not work with Safari. You must use Firefox 1.0+.

Q. What is the difference between TIRRUS and web design packages such as Dreamweaver or FrontPage?

A. To use packages such as Dreamweaver or FrontPage you need to know how to design and create a website in HTML and everything else that goes with it. TIRRUS is an application that allows you to manage the content after an accredited web developer has created the design and put it on to TIRRUS. Having said that, if you have clear ideas about how you want your design to look we will ,of course, be delighted to discuss this with you and use your ideas during the construction process.

Q. What training do I need to use it?

(Specific skills like html, java, IT knowledge, etc.) A. No special skills are required to use TIRRUS , the system has been developed to allow anybody to use it. Just a basic grasp of word processing software will be enough to get you started, and the system provides comprehensive help for the more detailed functionality. As a new customer you benefit of 3 hours training and free support for the first month. You will have access to online help after the first month and can also buy ongoing live support packages.

Q. Who will host my TIRRUS website?

A. Websites have to be hosted on our own servers. Our hosting solutions are very reasonably priced and our service is second to none.

Q. Will I have to install TIRRUS updates ?

A. No, as TIRRUS is a hosted application and we take care of all of that. The updates are done seamlessly, thus all customers using TIRRUS will benefit automatically from all future upgrades.
